Most storage advice ends with things in plastic tubs at the back of a closet. That works for the garage. Inside the home, the better goal is storage you do not need to hide, because the container itself is worth looking at.
Baskets as furniture
A good basket is closer to furniture than to packaging. Woven cotton next to the sofa for throws, structured felt on a shelf for the things without a home. They hold clutter while adding texture, which is the opposite of what a plastic tub does.
The transparency question
For closet storage, a window changes everything. A storage bag with a transparent panel means winter quilts and spare linen are identifiable in one glance, no unzipping and repacking. Foldable versions flatten when empty, which matters in American apartments where every closet inch counts.
Laundry, but make it livable
The laundry basket is on show more than we admit. A foldable fabric basket with proper handles is easy to carry, easy to store, and does not announce itself the way a plastic hamper does.
One in, one considered
The quiet rule behind all of this: storage should never be the excuse to keep more. Each basket has a purpose. When it is full, the answer is rarely another basket. Good storage makes it easier to see what you own, and seeing it clearly is what makes letting go easier too.
